Holding a narrow corridor 16 miles long, through enemy territory, from Eindhoven to Grave, the division fought against heavy odds for ten days. On 17 September 1944, the 101st jumped into Holland during Operation Market Garden. Time and time again, the 101st has kept that rendezvous and in so doing, acquired a proud history.Įmbarking from Camp Shanks, New York in September, the 101st continued training in England until D-day, 6 June 1944, when its pathfinders became the first Americans to set foot in occupied France.Īfter 33 days of continuous fighting, including a bitter battle for the town of Carentan, the 101st returned to England to prepare for future airborne operations. Not much to write about there - just some skirmishes with limited Axis resistance at second day of landing operation, but interesting noneless and might add some more flavor to Buttler.Lee, observed that the 101sthas no history, but has a Rendezvous with Destiny. Buttler's tanks at the early stages of Operation Dragoon. While Western front isn't really my "speciality", I did stumbled recently upon the account of US airborne company fighting alongside Gen. US Airborne had 12,7mm HMG as sole AA, no tanks and AT restricted to a handful of 57mm! While this is off-topic, is there any chance to see some US paratroopers in TF Buttler? Regardless I just wanted to ask and thank you all for the replies.

US Airborne had 12,7mm HMG as sole AA, no tanks and AT restricted to a handful of 57mm! The previous SD game had the 101st although as you have said it does look a bit light and somewhat linear compared to sd2 divisions without any counterplay options against stronger eastern front divisions but if you guys could tweak it a bit to be a viable pick I would love to play with them because everytime I hear the 6th Airborne infantry say "we're paratroopers we're supposed to be surrounded" I think of the series so I thought maybe there could be a mix of the 101st with the 4th or 10th armor divisions since they claimed that they saved the paratroopers at the battle of the bulge but I understand that it does not sit well with maintaining historical accuracy. Although the latter has became more famous because of Band of Brothers, the former was the "real deal" of US airborne division, with combat experience going back to North Africa.īut American airborne divisions are way too light for SD2: German Fallschirmjäger ones fighting as regular infantry had some armored support, while British ones (thanks to their heavy gliders) had access to heavy 17-pdr AT guns or even light tanks. If we were ever to add an American airborne division, I would also go 82nd rather than 101st. Originally posted by kevin.bishop4:82nd Airborne wouldn't go amiss either.
